The Senior Staff Mess was constructed in 1960 and was completed in 1962. The architectural style is that of a French fortress. It is situated on the campus of the Royal Military College of Canada on the south side of the peninsula. It overlooks Lake Ontario and the view includes King's Bay, Fort Henry and Wolfe Island, just to name a few landmarks.
It is a one-storey building with a main dining room that seats 150 people, a small private dining room that seats up to 40 people, a main furnished salon with fireplace and grand piano, and a bar at the west end. The Senior Staff Mess services the needs of officers, professors and senior administrators at the college by providing daily lunches, coffee breaks and catering internal functions such as mess dinners. However, the mess can be booked for functions by the public, as well. These include wedding receptions, anniversaries, birthday parties, retirements, and bereavement functions, as examples. The Mess has handicapped accessibility at the main entrance and, because everything is on one level, movement through building is very easy. Also, once inside the Mess, those with disabilities have access to the back patio and grounds via a ramp from the dining room to the exterior.
